bijoliya teerth kshetra is supposed to be the place of penance (tapa bhumi) of lord parsvanath, place of revolt (upsarg bhumi) by kamattha (enemy of lord parsvanath since previous lives) and place of achieving kevalgyan (super natural knowledge) and first place of samavsharan of lord parsvanath. some of the world’s great petrographs are available here. this place is supposed to be old more than 2750 years, as is clear by petrographs. the kshetra is about 2 km ahead in south – east of bijoliya town.

in v.s. 1226 a famous businessman of ujjain city shri lolark came here during his pilgrimage, saw a dream in night and came to know about the ancient idol of lord parsvanath. according to dream in the next morning he dug the place near a pond and thus a magnificent ancient idol of lord parsvanath appeared, some other idols of goddess ambika, padmawati, shri dharnendra & kshetrapal were also found.

this temple was completed in v.s. 1226 and these idols were installed in this temple on the day falgun krishna 3, thursday of v.s. 1226. this is panchayatan mandir (temple) surrounded by a rampart.
in year 1858 some englishmen came here and saw the rampart surrounding the temple and vast petrographs, they thought about the hidden treasure here. so they applied mines of explosives around the petrographs. before they could fire the explosives, a dense flock of honey bees attacked them and they were compelled to run away. at the same time milk flooded out of mines.

in v.s. 1958 another wondrous thing happened. seeing the temple without principal deity, devotees thought that a basement may be there with idol of principal deity lord parsvanath. this probability was told to king, he ordered to dig there, devotees and other persons went to the temple, they saw a stone there written ‘sopan’ on it (sopan means stairs), it was removed and digging started but in vain, suddenly a terrible white king cobra came there by southern gate and stayed there. as a result all the people returned.

the main temple is the panchayatan mandir with a central temple (garbha-griha). a new idol of principal deity lord parsvanath has been installed in this temple, no one knows about the ancient idol of lord parsvanath recovered by shri lolark. over the shrine of this temple an artistic pinnacle of stone is made, on which images of 24 teerthankars are carved beautifully with parsvanath’s idol in the center over the gate. images of indra (king of heaven), chamarendra, dharanendra, ambika & padmawati and others are also carved on it in very artistic manner.

surrounding the ancient temple, teerthankar idols are installed in mini temples.

two great columns of dignity (manastambha), foot images of 10 ganadharas of lord parsvanath and 1000 others bhagwans on a rock, is a must see unique sight.

two ancient stupas with standing idols carved in all sides are pleasant. new magnificent samavsharan mandir, chaubeesee mandir with 24 idols of teerthankars in standing posture and ganadhar parameshthi mandir are good too.

in the east of kshetra near the bank of river reva so many big rocks may be seen. it is supposed that these rocks were thrown by kamattha to disturb muni parsvanath from tapa (penance). this is described in petrography.
